Cassette Drums is a free VST and AU plugin offered by Bedroom Producers Blog. It’s actually a set of three plugins: Cassette 606, 808 and 909. Those contain samples from Roland TR series drum machines 606, 808 and 909. According to BPB, all samples were provided by Edgar Maguyon, Gregor Zemljic and a Reddit user called Anderson303. Also, the plugin was created by Crimson Merry.
The interface is quite straightforward. The main section shows Volume and Release knobs for each drum part. Notice that each part has a channel selection (1 to 16), so it’s possible to route the outputs independently.
At the bottom, there’s a virtual keyboard, where the parts are mapped according to their colors. There’s also an Output knob, which controls the global volume.
Each Cassette plugin comes with three kits: Clean, Warm and Hot. Clean has all unprocessed samples. Warm and Hot consists of drum parts re-sampled from an audio cassette deck.
Cassette 606 has five channels: Kick, Snare, Hi hat, Toms and Cymbals. The kit has 4 kicks, 4 snares, 5 toms and 7 cymbals.
Cassette 808 comes with seven channels: Kick, Snare, Clap, Hi hat, Toms, Misc 1 and Misc 2. There are 4 kicks, 3 snares, 1 clap, 2 hihats, 3 toms, 3 more toms and 2 more sounds on misc 1 and 2 more hihats on misc 2.
Cassette 909 has also 7 channels: Kick, Snare, Clap, Hi hat, Toms, Misc 1 and Misc 2. It has 4 kicks, 3 snares, 1 clap, 2 hihats, 3 toms, 5 more toms on misc 1 and 2 more hi hats on misc 2.
